Terms of use

VATtools is free to use. The calculators give estimates for common situations, based on the rules on the dates shown. They are not tax advice.

Estimates, not advice

Every calculator shows its working and the rule it used, so you can check the answer. The results are estimates for the situation you describe. They do not know your full circumstances, and VAT has exceptions a calculator cannot cover. Before you rely on a figure for a return, an invoice, a payment to HMRC or a business decision, check it against HMRC's guidance or with a qualified accountant.

Rules on the dates shown

The UK figures were last checked against HMRC and gov.uk on 22 October 2026, and EU rates on 22 October 2026. Rates and rules change, and there can be a gap between a change and our update. The rule change log lists every change we have made and when.

Our responsibility

We work hard to keep the calculators and guides accurate, but we do not promise they are free of mistakes or always available. We are not responsible for losses that come from relying on a result without checking it, or from decisions you make using this site. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

If you find a mistake, please email hello@vattools.com. We will fix it and record it in the change log.

You are welcome to link to any page or result. The EU VAT rates table may be reused under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence with a credit link. Please do not copy the rest of the site's text, calculators or images without asking.

We link to HMRC, gov.uk, the European Commission and other sources so you can check our figures. We are not responsible for their content.
